Chamba Valley in The Himalayas of India

Chamba is one of the most picturesque valleys in the Himalayas. It lies between the Zanskar and Dhauladhar range in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India.
 
Situated at an altitude of 726 meter above the sea level, this valley is exposed to the temperature variations of 0 degree centigrade in the winters to 36 degree centigrade in the summers. It was founded by Raja Sahil Verma in 20 AD, who named it after his favorite daughter 'Champavati'. The magnificent valley is adorned by the Ravi river and bejeweled by the multicolored wild flowers.

Attractions of Chamba:

Lakshmi Narayan Temple: The total of six Sikhara temples are arranged in a row from north to south that are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The northern most is that of the Lakshmi-Narayan - which is the principal temple of Chamba. It is the oldest and largest temple in Chamba valley. The temple remains open from 6 am to 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Chamunda Devi Temple: The 700 old temple of Chamunda Devi is one of the most important pilgrimage center in Chamba Valley. The temple is dedicated to Chamunda Devi - the incarnation of Goddess Durga. The main shrine of Goddess Durga with Lord Bhairav and Lord Hanuman as the two guards adorn the temple. The temple is beautifully carvings depicting floral motifs and different deities.

Brajeswari Temple: It is one more important temple in Chamba Valley, that has been dedicated to Sui Mata -the local princess of Chamba who sacrifice her life for the people of her kingdom. Different paintings on the wall of temple are portrayed as depicting the story of Sui Mata.

Gandhi Gate: Formerly known as the 'Delhi Gate', Gandhi Gate is the important heritage site of the Chamba Valley. Gandhi Gate was actually built to give a warm welcome to Lord Curzon, the British Viceroy in 100.

Bhuri Singh Museum: Bhuri Singh Museum is the must visit to the visitors coming on the tour to Dalhousie or Chamba. Check out the Kangra style of paintings and other paintings from the Rang Mahal Palace which was damaged by fire.

Chaugan: Chaugan is the center of all cultural activities in Chamba. It is the also the venue of colorful Minjar Mela that is held here annually.

Lama Dal: Lama Dal is the largest lake among the seven lakes in Chamba. The lake is held sacred to the Lord Shiva, lies amidst the bare rock and there is also the Shiva temple on its banks.

Pangi Valley: Located between the pir-panjal range and Zanskar range, Pangi valley is remote region in Chamba Valley.

Rang Mahal: Rang Mahal is the important sightseeing destination in Chamba. It is beautiful palace that was built by the Raja Umed Singh in the med of the 18th century. The major attraction of the palace are its carved and painted doors, while rare painting belonging to the Kangra school are also displayed here. It is the main Handicraft emporium in Chamba.

Chamera Lake: Visit the spectacular Chamera Lake in Chamba, built over the river Ravi, offering numerous water sports facilities to the visitors.
