The Chail Wild life Sanctuary has a long history associated with it. It was once the hunting ground of Patiala Bhupinder Singh. This hill station was founded after the king was restricted from entering the place after he eloped with the daughter of another king. It was in the year 1976 when the place was declared as wild life sanctuary. Angling is a very popular activity in the place. One can frequently see people catching Mahaseer fish in Gaura River.
